    Toronto here we come

Well we have just over a week until we leave for Toronto. My instructor and I are flying in on Wednesday, sightseeing on Thursday, doing dance and dinner on Friday. Saturday we will be going off to Niagara Falls on an excursion. Sunday we will return home. Hubby is staying home with the dogs. He prefers it that way, so it works out for all. I’m actually looking forward to the cooler weather we will have in Toronto. The student I am loaning the dress to has offered to do my hair and makeup. For ease I am taking all my own makeup. Since we haven’t finalized how or when…

    Getting ready for Toronto

I know its been a while but its about a month until my next competition. This time its off to Toronto Canada. For this competition I had to make sure I have a passport and could get into Canada. I have a valid passport so not a problem. Things to be aware of when competing outside your country: Passport – Do you have a passport? Is your passport valid for the time necessary. This may sound like a strange question, but most countries need your passport to be valid 6 months past the date you will be there. Sounds simple, but how often do you use your passport? Do you…

How do you choose makeup colors?

I’ve got something of a dilemma. I recently got my one of my new dresses. Back in December I was at the Las Vegas competition. I didn’t dance since I had been ill for about 6 weeks and was still getting better. But I had already gotten my flight and planned to go, so I went anyway. While I was there one of the dress designers had a special (unadvertised). So I put down my trusty credit card and made a purchase of custom dresses. The first one has arrived. Here is it. The front of the dress. The back of the dress. Now to be fair, when I first…

    So what are sparkles?

On the website I mention sparkles. Saying “Anything that sparkles and catches the lights” really doesn’t explain it well. So I figured I would give you an idea of what I’m talking about. These are a set of french twist combs that have attached rhinestones. I’m showing you these since I attached the stones myself and didn’t buy them. The comb on the right (same comb on the bottom) is two rows of the same size AB crystal rhinestones. The comb on the left has a variety of size AB crystals attached to it. The stones are attached using E2000 glue. Another item I have made and used is this…

    Thoughts on Philadelphia

We got back from Philadelphia Monday evening, we had a delay of an hour on our connecting flight. I’ve been thinking about what worked and what didn’t, and what I would change. When leaving Texas I had packed my check thru suitcase with clothes and items I could easily replace, and of course liquids that didn’t fit into my one quart TSA baggie. My carry on was a duffel with my dress, shoes, jewelry, a change of clothes, and my TSA one quart baggie. My second carry on/personal item was a tote with my purse, cell phone, tablet, and other small items. My instructor was gentlemanly and offered to carry…

    Make it thru Philadelphia

I just danced at the Philadelphia competition. I had fun. For the first time I did my own makeup. That was an experience. I’ve done my hair before, but I’ve always had my makeup done so this was new for me. I’ve been taking lessons on putting on my own makeup so this was the first time putting all those lessons into practice. I think it worked. I’m tickled about that. I still had to get up at 6am to shower, do my hair, my makeup, get dressed and make it down in time for 8 am dance. But that sure beats getting up at 4 or 5 to get…

    More about makeup

I’ve now done two private sessions with a makeup artist to learn how to apply my makeup. Bearing in mind that I don’t wear makeup on a regular basis (technically I’m retired, early, and don’t go out much) , I’ve been working on practicing my makeup as often as possible. Even though I may be home working in the yard, playing with the dogs, or just whatever, I’ve been putting on makeup. Some of the mistakes have been hilarious. Just because a color comes in a compact doesn’t mean it works on you (I’m looking at you purple!). Maybe its just the wrong shade (too dark, too light, too red,…

    Makeup

I’ve been trying to understand makeup. In order to get more knowledgeable I have actually had an appointment with a makeup artist to learn how to do my makeup. This is quite an adventure.  I’m not going to bother putting up images or video, you can find enough of those online or on YouTube. But here are some things I am learning. Start with good skin care, Now I know that that is quite a blanket statement. But the problem is good skin care is different for each individual. You may have combination skin, maybe you have acne, or maybe you have mature skins (like me) and are changing up…

    Makeup again

Things I am learning. Skincare matters when wearing makeup. I will keep using exfoliation (use a washcloth or one of the Korean “Italy towel” mitts), use serums if you need them, moisturizer both day and night, and use sunscreen. Using things like eye creams, snail creams or serums, oils, or other options are entirely up to you. If you go to use a serum or cream, remember to use the right one and use enough. If you use a serum, make sure you have enough to spread it where you want it. You probably need to use less for just your eye area, but again, make sure you use enough.…
